Applicant must be an Indian citizen.
Applicant should own a residential house where the rooftop is structurally suitable for installing solar panels.
The household must have a valid electricity connection (consumer number) from the local Electricity Distribution Company (DISCOM).
The household must not have already availed a government subsidy for solar panel installation.
The rooftop area must be sufficient (unshaded, structurally sound) for the required capacity of the solar system.
While it is open to all residential homes, preference is given to low- and middle-income households.

How to Apply for PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

To apply for the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, first visit the official website [https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in](https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in)**. Register yourself by selecting your state and electricity company (DISCOM), then enter your electricity consumer number, mobile number, and email ID. After verifying your mobile number with an OTP, you’ll receive login details.

Next, log in to the portal and fill out the application form by providing information about your home and rooftop. Upload necessary documents such as your Aadhaar card, latest electricity bill, and bank details. Once submitted, your local DISCOM will check if your rooftop is suitable for solar panel installation and give approval.

After approval, choose a solar vendor from the approved list available on the portal. The vendor will install the solar panels on your rooftop according to the set standards. Once installation is complete, the DISCOM will install a net meter, allowing you to send extra electricity back to the grid.

Finally, after inspection and verification, the government will transfer the subsidy amount directly to your bank account.
